First of all I'm sorry to say I can't speak French!

For a while my extensive collection of turbocharged headaches have made me crave something properly retro, and above all simple.
And this is about as far back to my roots as I can go, as way back in the early 80s when I was 3 years old and my Dad had one as his first car! Yes you read that right, I remember my Dad buying his first car! He was a late starter when it came to motoring in his early 30s...

On the other hand I was a petrolhead from day one, and I can remember a lot of good times from my first days around cars.... the very first being a V reg orange Chrysler Horizon.

I hadn't been in the market for yet another car (really don't need one!), but I couldn't resist this one. 29k on the clock, mint and original throughout, and according to 'How many Left' one of only two taxed Chrysler Horizons still on UK roads!

Well I checked it out when I was down in London working last week.... (in the dark!), and had a good think about it while I headed over to Paris for more work.



Talking to mate Stuart, who also shares similar daft taste in old cars, we decided to half in on it and co-own a nice simple low 'n' slow project. So with Stuart heading down on the train to London, we met up, did the deal and headed back up the road......



It was a pretty long day travelling from Paris, via London and then up to Glasgow!



Here it is at the Gretna services at 4am or something last night, just as the Horizon ticked over to the 30k mark!






So future plans are pretty simple....


Get it low

Find cool wheels in 4x98 (maybe wide steels, or something tarty, BBS/similar?) I have 4x98 17" Compmotive MOs, and black 16" Alfa Speedlines, but not sure they'd suit, or of the centre bore would be the same.

Give it a good polish up.

Replace the dead tailgate strut

Silicone the headlight glass in that fell out within the first 100 yards of ownership ;D

I will keep the wheels for future use, so the car can be returned to original. The tyres on the 13" wheels are VERY old for a start.
For now I would like some 15x8 wheels maybe, and lower the car.

Any modification will be 100% reversible to standard! I don't want to spoil the car.

Hello Ade, you got a very rare pretty Horizon in that excellent shape ,she seems sound very well,but any way think to do some preventive rust protection for the future,will you send some more details photos of interior ,trim, trunk,engine etc..

Yes, it'll be getting some rust proofing! It seems to already have had this in its life, but I must continue.

I drove it all over Glasgow on my various duties today doing about 100 miles.
Got SO much love from random people everywhere too!
Car performed great too. Gearbox is a bit rubbish, but I've heard they always were!
Massively comfy car, so it shouldn't be too uncomfortable when lowered I'm guessing!

I have lots of questions for you all, but right now I'm packing to go to San Francisco tomorrow. I wish I could take my new car with me...
